It's the murder trial of the 20th Century. Broadway star Libby Holman is accused of killing her uber-wealthy husband, tobacco baron Smith Reynolds, so she can run off with her uber-wealthy lover, Louisa 'Dupont' Jenney. In the midst of the trial, RJ Reynolds, Smith's brother, walks into the courtroom and orders the judge to drop the charges.
